The Fox Chapel Area School District Spanish Immersion pilot program will be entering its second year in the 2020-2021 school term. The Spanish Immersion program debuted at the brand-new Kerr Elementary School at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, and includes 25 first-grade students. The state-of-the-art Spanish Immersion classroom is the only one of its kind in western Pennsylvania. The 2020-2021 program for first graders will be open to current kindergartners who are already enrolled in the district for kindergarten. Transportation will be provided. The students enrolled in the Spanish Immersion classroom spend the majority of their school day listening, speaking, and learning core subjects in Spanish as 80 to 100 percent of the instruction is provided in Spanish. Applications for the Spanish Immersion program will be accepted March 2-April 17, 2020. Enrollment is limited and students will be chosen by a random selection process.
